Corporate and Office Team
President & CEO
Sam has nearly 35 years of experience in the refrigeration Industry, getting started as a refrigeration technician for Refrigeration Design in 1979. He did his apprenticeship with Hill Refrigeration before moving on to Hussmann Sacramento, where he spent 25 years, working his way up to project and installation manager.
Sam started RSI as a small shop, focused on customer service and building strong, lasting relationships. RSI has grown to become the premier refrigeration company in Northern California and the Sacramento Valley.
Marcus grew up around the refrigeration industry, spending his summers in the field learning the trade from the ground floor.
Marcus joined RSI full time after earning his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Marcus recently earned his MBA at UC Davis, Graduate School of Management with concentrations in Strategic Management, Business Analytics, and Entrepreneurship.
Vice President, Administration
Chelsey rose up through the ranks at RSI, growing with the company and learning all of the in and outs of the business from taking customer calls and dispatching techs to ordering parts to managing the company finances and accounting department.
Chelsey is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento where she received her Bachelor's of Arts in Economics.
Bob has been in the refrigeration business for nearly 40 years. He has a degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Sacramento.
Bob started in the refrigeration trade in 1973 as a technician for Hussmann in Sacramento where he quickly moved up to Construction Manager and later Director of Western Region Operations and then National Director of Operations of Ingersoll Rand (Hussmann). Bob later became director of West Coast Operations for Hill Phoenix before joining RSI in 2011 as Construction Manager.
Chief Operating Officer
Travis has 20+ years' experience in the construction industry working on projects ranging from commercial buildings to utility scale industrial complexes in remote foreign nations including Qatar, Bahrain, Iceland and Curaçao.
Travis started his career in construction digging ditches for the family’s general contracting company. He would later go on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before spending nearly a decade with Bechtel, a multinational engineering and construction firm. Over the years Travis managed approximately $750M in construction contracts, building airports, aluminum smelters and power plants – most notably & recently the one-of-its-kind Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Facility in the Mojave Desert. Travis brings a unique skill set to RSI which supports him in his role working to expand the company's operations & contracting capacities.
National Sales Manager
Mark has over 20 years' experience in the refrigeration contracting and equipment industry and also has degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix, Sacramento.
From his beginning in the trade as an apprentice mechanic, through his advancement to construction manager, and then into sales and management roles, Mark has produced exceptional consistent results.
Sam entered the HVACR industry in 2001. As he has worked for ACCO, Raley’s, and Hill Phoenix he has seen almost every side of the industry. He has also been actively involved in ASHRAE, GreenChill, and FMI.
Sam earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sacramento State University in 1999, and his P.E. license in 2004. He brings his broad experience and training to the design and manufacturing teams as he serves as Engineering Manager.
Austin has more than 10 years of experience in drafting and design and has worked for numerous drafting companies, specializing in SolidWorks and mechanical drafting applications. Western States Fire Protection, B. Dillon Inc., and California Sunrooms have previously benefitted from his enthusiasm and vast experience in the field. He has been recognized with statewide honors in creative design, and recently graduated from ITT Technical Institute with an Associate’s of Science in Drafting and Design.
Accounts Receivable Manager
Theresa brings over twenty five years of experience in all aspects of accounts receivable, credit/collections and customer service management, primarily in the construction industry. She is committed to ensuring timely payment of goods and services, with an emphasis on customer service. Born and raised in Sacramento, Theresa majored in Business Administration/Strategic Management and Interior Design at Sacramento State University.
She is extremely involved in her local community and in her spare time, she enjoys working on genealogy and searching for the next great design find.
Tamara brings with her 14+ years of progressive financial experience within multiple industries. Her most recent 6 years have been in Construction where she was involved and managed all areas of Accounting and Finance. Tamara earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management and Accounting from California State University, Sacramento. Tamara is a pro-active team-oriented leader who brings experience, creativity, high energy, and passion to the company’s Mission, Vision, and Values. She enjoys looking at and challenging processes with a view to improving inefficiencies.
Service Coordinator II
Carol joined the RSI team after 15 years in the grocery refrigeration industry. Carol assists the Service Manager in overseeing service department operations, ensuring that customer, technician and management needs are met. She strives for effective quality production in a calm and desirable atmosphere. In her personal time she enjoys yoga and cycling.
John joins the RSI team with twenty-six years of experience in the facilities/maintenance industry. He has progressively advanced from a field technician. John spent the last 10 years as a Regional Service Manager. With a supermarket background, he has a broad knowledge of understanding the equipment, preventative maintenance programs, working within budget, and managing all aspects of a motivated team to sustain a professional working relationship with an emphasis on customer service.
Peter entered refrigeration industry in 2008 after graduating from UC Davis with Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Earlier in his career he designed and build electronic control panels. Later on, he designed injection molded parts for Thermo-simple 1 and 2. He also wrote their manuals and ordering system to buy these thermometers online. Before he join RSI he was exploring 3D printing technology and designed a mechanical tie. In his leisure time he enjoys making sandwiches, eating them, and sleeping in.
Service Accounts Manager
Latrisha Hatcher was introduced to the finance field in the Refrigeration Industry in 2004. Beginning in accounts receivable, she was quickly promoted to billing, then to account management and sales. There she managed many large supermarket chains in the Northern California/Nevada region. Customer satisfaction is, and always has been top priority in the finance field for Latrisha. She enjoys working closely with technicians to ensure that great service is being performed, and the customers needs are met in a timely manner.
David joined RSI in early 2014, since then he has been involved with building and manufacturing refrigeration systems, served as a Field Technician, Refrigeration Apprentice, and then moved into Sales. David earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Concrete Design from Chico State in 2009. He brings a wide variety of skills to RSI, that support him in his role.
Amar Joined RSI in early 2015, since then he has been involved in the configuration and maintance of our network as well as providing technical support for our office employees and service technicians. He is currently completing his Bachelor's in Computer Science at the University of Phoenix in Sacramento.
Kelly’s position at RSI is a Service Analysis. She works closely with the Service Coordinator, Carol, to ensure customer needs are being met. Kelly graduated in 2013 from CSU Sacramento with a Bachelor’s in Interior Design. From her previous work experience, in a restaurant setting, she has many years of customer service experience.
Reception & Dispatch
Veronica assists with dispatching and general reception duties. She works closely with the technicians as well as communicating with RSI's customers to ensure that they are receiving service.
Veronica is from the Bay Area but moved to Sacramento to attend Sacramento State University where she earned her Bachelor's of Arts in Photography.
Reception & Dispatch
Takiywa joined our team at RSI in March 2015, where she assists with administrative projects and dispatching. Takiywa is originally from the Reno, Nevada area but has resided in Sacramento for more than 20 years. Takiywa attended school at American River College in Sacramento.
Service, Construction, and Installation Technicians
Corey has been in refrigeration for 18 years. He went to Union local 447 for a 5 year apprenticeship and fell into a career that he loves. His favorite part about his job is working with his hands as well as creating and building new things. When he is not working he enjoys wave boarding and riding dirt bikes.
Alex Kapelkin started as a refrigeration service technician in 2008 at Hussmann and joined RSI in 2012. He learned HVAC/R at a 5 year apprenticeship school and on the job training. He got into this trade because he enjoys mechanical and electrical aspects of refrigeration. He also enjoys providing service, startup of new equipment, and EMS (Energy Management System) install and retrofit.
Chris became a refrigeration technician 39 years ago. He went to Mesa Verde High school and graduated early out of a class of 400. He then started his apprenticeship program with the plumbers and fitters union which gave him the opportunity to lead his first job as an apprentice. He also graduated from MET College (Mechanical Electrical Technology). He has a special certification for handling ammonia. His favorite part about being a foreman is the diversity of his job. “You have to be an electrician, plumber, welder and jack of all trades”. Chris enjoys building racks for Advanced Refrigeration but when he is not working, he is either relaxing on his motor bike or waterskiing.
Ken Alvarez has been in the refrigeration business for over 30 years. It all started in high school when everyone he knew wanted to be a mechanic. Ken had already had some mechanical experience after working on cars alongside with his father. He joined an ROC program to work on refrigeration/HVAC systems and has been in the industry ever since.
Marshall Baber grew up around the refrigeration and HVAC business. He got his initial training during the 1980s at a family owned HVAC business overseas. He graduated from the institute for business and technology in Santa Clara California in the field of commercial HVAC and refrigeration. He joined RSI in 2014. He enjoys every minute of working in this field.
Geoff Hatcher was a boat/marine mechanic after he had finished school and his friend’s mom was a dispatcher for a refrigeration company. When the recession hit in 2007, he was laid off because no one had money to work on their boats. She heard he was looking for work and he was able to get an interview that led him to the refrigeration world.
Tim Blackwell has always enjoyed repairing things and figuring out how things work. He had had some friends that were going to UTI refrigeration trade school in Arizona so he decided to go and enroll as well. He has been in the refrigeration business since 1988. He has worked for Key Mechanical, Hussman, CA Refrigeration, and ACCO before coming to RSI.
Kyle has been in the refrigeration trade for 10 years, starting out with Hussmann Refrigeration as a tradesman in the EMS department where he eventually began his apprenticeship with the Local 447 trade school. After helping out in both the service and construction/install departments Kyle made the move over to RSI towards the end of his apprenticeship to join the construction/install department where he has climbed the ladder to the position he is in now.
Joseph Velasquez was a HVAC residential technician for 12 years prior to getting into commercial refrigeration. He’s been in this field for 7 years now. It was just by coincidence that he met a refrigeration mechanic and after speaking with him, suggested that Joseph speak with his supervisor, who ended up hiring him right away.
Pete has been doing refrigeration for 8 years. He went to school at The Institute of Technology to learn HVAC/ refrigeration. His favorite part about working is the fact that you never have the same day twice and he loves working with people. On his off days he like to camp and spend time with his family.
Steve has been doing refrigeration for about 26 years. He went to school at San Joaquin Delta College for HVAC/Controls and refrigeration where he earned a two year certification. His favorite part about his job is being able to fix things and help people with their repair needs. His main goal is to see his customers happy after he leaves each job. He loves learning about different refrigeration techniques every day. When he’s not working, he loves to be around his children and grandchildren to spoil them. He also loves fishing and being in the outdoors.
Mike Withers always enjoyed being a mechanic; he grew up with a sprint car racing team right across the street that afforded him the opportunity to work on many old Chevy cars. When he got out of the military in 1994 he went to work at Hewlett Packard in the Facilities Maintenance Department. He did general maintenance while going to school, then Auto Cad for 5 years. After several years of being a manager at HP, Mike realized that he needed to get back to his blue collar roots. He knew several people in the HVAC/R trade and interviewed with Hussmann. They hired him because of his military background and his peers’ recommendations. He was immediately enrolled in the Union Local 447 apprenticeship program and has been enjoying this trade ever since. Mike worked at Key Refrigeration before joining RSI.
Cody McMillan has been doing commercial refrigeration for 4 years. He started as an apprentice for RSI, after he graduated Pleasant Grove High School in 2010. He chose this field because he couldn't see himself sitting at a desk as his career. He likes working with his hands and being at a new place everyday. He also enjoys making a difference in somebody's day by knowing that he helped them.
